Shocking news has surfaced in the South Indian Film Industry, as the censored copy of the mega-budget movie “Kabali” has leaked online, even before its release.

According to credible reports, a print of this upcoming film which is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 22, 2016, has appeared in some Torrent platforms.

The Hindustan Times reported that several links to download the full film are now available on the dark web. A dark web is an encrypted network which uses the public internet but demands particular software applications and configurations.

The leakage of the censoring print has shocked the producer of the film, Kalaipuli S Thanu. Thanu has previously approached the Madras High Court and has obtained an injunction order to ban more than 169 websites which are known for spreading pirated prints online. The makers of the flick have already approached law authorities to take down the prints from these sites.

Censor copy leaked!

Pahlaj Nahlani, the chief of Censor Board, has expressed his concern over this continuous leakage of significant films. According to Nehlani, it is a matter to be dealt seriously, as censor copies are getting leaked.

He also added that this leakage would not affect the collections of “Kabali”, as it has a big star like Rajinikanth in the lead role.

As per the CBFC head, small movies will get affected the most if prints are getting out, and he even quoted the example of “Great Grand Masti”.

This is not the first time that the censor copies of features are going. Earlier, high-quality videos of movies like “Sultan” and “Udta Punjab” were also leaked on the Internet by pirates.

Pa Ranjith has directed this high-budget flick. It has Dhansika and Radhika Apte in the roles of heroines. The supporting star cast includes Dinesh, Kalaiarasan, and Winston Chao. Santhosh Narayanan has composed the music for this movie.

Sources say that the leak might have originated from the Gulf region. This is indicated by the fact that the subtitles in the video are in Arabic.

A Malayalam movie named “Ka Bodyscapes” has been banned by the Central Board of Film Certification due to its explicit scenes and sleazy dialogues.

This Jayan Cherian directorial was first denied certificate by the CBFC panel members, and now the revising committee has also taken a similar decision, and they have made it clear that the film does not deserve a theatrical screening.

As per the censor board, the film is loaded with umpteen numbers of scenes which belittle Hindu Gods and culture. They also added that the director has used derogatory words against women throughout the running time.

There is one scene in which the filmmaker showcases a woman masturbating, and these kinds of scenes do not deserve even ‘A’ or ‘S’ certificate.

The CBFC has sent a letter to Jayan Cherian, and it is being signed by Prathibha A, Regional Officer, CBFC, Trivandrum.

This is not the first time that a movie from Jayan Cherian is facing similar problems. Earlier, his movie “Pappillio Budha” was also banned by censor board citing various reasons.

In “Ka Bodyscapes”, Jayan showcases a touching story in the backdrop of modern Kerala. The movie has touched current issues like “Kiss of Love Protest”, “Standing agitation” and sexual abuse faced by women in workplaces.

CBFC believe that the idea behind making this movie is good, but the way in which it is presented is so sleazy, and as a result, they are compelled to refuse the certificate.

This movie stars Nilambur Ayisha, Ashwin Mathew, Jayaprakash Kuloor, Arundathi and Saritha in the lead roles.

A number of other movies like ‘Grat Grand Masti’ were released after many cuts, but this one was not suitable for the general audience said one of the censor members.

A brave attempt to make a satire which went in vain

Director Vishal Mishra has faced so many challenges while making this movie, and around one month back, Mishra has complained to police stating that he is continuously receiving threatening calls from unknown people as the film tries to portray Dawood Ibrahim in a very funny manner.

But unfortunately, the film has literally failed to meet the expectations, and what we witness in theaters was a half-baked flick with some fine moments here and there.

The film revolves around the story of Arnab, a celebrated Indian journalist who is loud-mouthed in nature. Due to his unique mannerisms, the TRP rating of his news show reached new heights, but the channel owner is not at all impressed on his character, and he relegates him to a less important cookery show. This move from the channel owner irritates Arnab, and he decides to go for the big kill; an interview with D, the dreaded underworld don.

Sunil Grover fails to impress, Zakir Hussain excels

The weak link of the movie is the below average performance from Sunil Grover. The actor was totally clueless about what he was doing, and he literally struggled to enact the character of the loud-mouthed journalist.

The saving grace of this film is the performance of Zakir Hussain. The actor literally stole the show with his spot-on comic timing. Dipannita Sharma and Anjana Sukhani had nothing much to do in this film.

Box-office predictions

“Coffee with D” is meant for the multiplex audiences, and in all probabilities, it will collect more than 8 Crores by the end of this weekend.

Mohanlal, the Complete Actor in Malayalam cinema, is continuing his mega run at the box-office, as his latest movie “1971: Beyond the Borders”, released on April 07, 2017, is receiving rave reviews from all corners.
